Mary came home from school, jumped in her dads arms and asked: “where did I come from?” Her dad cleared his throat and attempted a simple answer to his daughter’s question. Mary was a little uneasy until her dad had finished. “Well he said, “I just wondered because Paddy said he came from Cork”.
The birth of your baby was certainly a time of great joy for you. Your baby’s baptism is also a time for joy and celebration. And naturally, you want the best for your baby. The Church wants the best for your child. We want to help you plan and prepare in the best possible way.
When you come to have your baby baptised do remember that your faith is very important. Your child will pick up your accent, your interests – like support in Gaelic Games or Soccer – your politics - likewise your interest and involvement in the Church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Baptism is the first of the sacraments and a very important sacrament. It makes the person baptised a member of the Church and an heir to heaven.
It is recommended that the sponsors be practising members of the church and be over 16 years of age.
A worthwhile booklet on the meaning of the sacrament of Baptism has been published by the Redemptorists and can be obtained from any of the Veritas Shops – either in Blanchardstown or Lower Abbey Street, Dublin
Here in Summerhill we try as far as posssible to administer the sacrament at times that are suitable to families. To arrange a Baptism ceremony contact Fr. Gavin, at Dangan, Summerhill. or phone 046 9557021.
